Designing A Strong Website

In this article we will talk about the fundamentals of designing a strong website. This will improve your website rankings in search engines as well as the user experience for your visitors.

Website Design Structure

Websites are laid out on different levels. The index/home page - level 1, followed by your main navigational pages - level 2, sub navigational pages - level 3 and so on (see diagram below). List down all of the sections that you wish to include on your website initially (more web pages can be added in time). Take your list and name your pages relevant to your sections e.g. A card shop wants to include a Christmas Card section so naturally the page name will be christmas-cards.html. Now split your web pages up into the correct levels to complete your website structure.

On-page Web Design and Cheap SEO techniques

Title and Meta Tags

This is one of the most important sections a web page and is located in the <head> tag. The <title> of your web page should include your main keyword as well as a brief description of what the page is about. The <description> should include your main keyword as well as 1 or 2 secondary keywords and should provide a more detailed description if your web page. The <keywords> should list you main, secondary and tertiary keywords for your web page and should be separated by commas e.g. keyword1,keyword2,keyword3 and so on.

Navigation

To create a strong flow throughout your website you need to have good navigation. This can consist of:

  • top or/and side navigation bar - this will include the main (level 2) pages of your website
  • sub navigation bar - this will have links through to the sub-pages (level 3) of your website
  • breadcrumb - this is the path which the user has taken to get to the web page that they are viewing e.g. Home > Cheap Web Design > Package 1
  • deep links - these can be textual links within the body of your content, image or banner links, etc and link to the inner pages of your website
  • footer navigation this will include all of the main pages of your website as well as other links, such as, Site map, Testimonials, FAQs, Privacy and any other pages which need to be accessible to your visitors

If you adopt a good navigational structure search engines will crawl your website more easily and increase your spread of Page rank from the index page.

Content

Take time to write good copy, especially on your main and landing pages. You are much more likely to win the users trust and gain their attention. Search engines love well written, relevant copy too! Include and highlight your keywords but make sure you don't over do it.
